Why Weight Loss Should Be As Easy

The fitness and weight loss industry do a really good job of over complicating weight loss. Is it purposely there to confuse us to stop uslosing weight? Is it a money-making scheme? Is it that they just don’t realise they are doing it? or do we just ignore that it can be so simple? In this blog I am going to help you make weight loss easy.

They say that a journey of 10,000 miles starts with a single step, and they could not be more spot on if they tried.

We all know that in theory if we want to take part in a big challenge we do it one step at a time. It’s how people climb mountains, run marathons or even a 5k park run.

One step at a time, no massive leaps or bounds, no quick routes, no gadgets or gizmos to take out any of the steps that you have to take.

It is a simple process, one foot in front of the other.

But why do we make it so complicated when it comes to weight loss, because in essence surely it should just be to eat less and move more, right?

But we have numbers to count, macros to hit, different styles of eating, keto, intermittent fasting, 5 and 2, Slimming World, Weight Watcher, Juice Plus, Herbal Life, Detox Teas, Slimming pills, all people marketing to you to

BUY OUR STUFF IT WILL FIX YOUR PROBLEM

Sure, it may, in the short term, but how about the long term. Because last time I checked this life is a marathon and not a sprint.

When we make things complicated and we detest doing it, guess what, you are not going to do it for very long.

It is rare that I meet someone who is on a diet, a restricted diet who loves it. I have yet to meet someone who has said they love restricting what they are eating and that it is really simple to do, and they have kept it up for more than 6 months.

Most weight loss models out there are not designed to help you lose weight and keep it off.

It is not their business model, their aim is to get rid of the weight and then when you have reached your “goal” you put it back on again and guess what, that means that you go back and spend more money with them to lose it again, only to gain it again. But guess what? more money to spend to lose it again, and there we have the yo-yo effect.

The reason this happens? because the “diet” is not sustainable, it is something you cannot possibly keep up, it also not enjoyable

I mean if it was enjoyable would you not do it for the rest of your life and lose the weight and not gain it back on?

How, then can we make weight loss simple? how can we make it sustainable, and enjoyable to do?

Personally, we believe that are 5 pillars to weight loss.

  1. Sleep – starting with actually resting and allowing your body to recuperate and mend, both physically and mentally. If your sleep deprived you are soon going to have cracks showing in your weight loss armor
  2. Water – the liquid of life, you have heard it before, we are made up of water SNORE! Yes we know the science, but why do we forget to drink water? Because it is borning, we swap it for caffeine to keep us awake. BUT if you nailed your sleep you would not need so much caffeine.
  3. Food – keeping it simple. On F28 (our 28 day program to help people do the do and put their health foundations in place) we just get them to eat 3 x per day, snacks are fruit and with every meal, they have to put a plan on their plate. SIMPLE
  4. Exercise – only when you have the top 3 in place can you work on moving your body in an efficient way. BUT the rules are there are no rules. Do what you enjoy and you will come back for more. It could be the gym, it could be a class, it could even be walking. Does not matter as long as you move your body
  5. CHILL THE F OUT- find out what help you to chill and relax. Find out what makes you smile and DO MORE OF THAT! a relaxed person is a stress-free person and stress is a BIG trigger for a lot of emotional eating and lethargy.

It does not need to be any more complicated than that.

One step a at a time. Work on your sleep, then work on your water, then work on your food, then work on your exercise. Build it up, just like you would do a walk or a run.

Slow is fast and fast is slow.

We walked 12 miles the other week from Hawkinge in Kent to Hougham in Kent. We did it by, guess?

Yup, you guessed it by putting one foot in front of the other.
